About the GHA Racing Team
GHA Racing is a team that aspires to win and would like to invite you to join in our adventure at the Baja 1000. We have raced off and on for over a decade, participating the Baja 500 in a Class 1 car and a class 5 car in 2013. We have helped other teams in Baja throughout these years as well like Beny Canela and Mag 7.
In 2015, we decided to race in the BITD series with a 6100 truck (spec truck in SCORE). In this series that year we were able to get 3rd place at our debut race, the Parker 425 and a win at the Silver State 300, along with a 2nd place finish at the Henderson 250. Our 2015 BITD resulted in a 2 nd place finish in the BITD Championship series.
The 2016 season started off great for us with a win at the Parker 425 and a 2nd place finish at the Mint 400. After that we raced the 2 day Vegas to Reno BITD race. Plans were then to race the Baja 1000, but once we found out that the 2017 Baja 1000 was going to be a peninsula run from Ensenada to La Paz, we decided to postpone until then.
For 2017, we decided to race in the Baja 1000 and once this decision was made it was a full effort. Our first ever peninsula run Baja 1000 resulted in a 3rd place podium finish. After 2017 it seemed like we had done what we could do in a 6100/Spec Truck. It was fun, but maybe we were getting bored of it and needed more of a challenge.
Enter the 2021 King of the Hammers race in Johnson Valley. The decision was made to not only race the Spec Truck, but the Class 11 car that Alex had been wanting to race for some time. The course was brutal for the Spec Truck and ended in a DNF. However, the next day was to be the Class 11 short course race and that is when the fun started. The guys were hooked. Quote from David Jameson, “You haven’t lived until you look over, you’re flying through the air and there is another bug 5 feet from your door flying along with you!”
Subconsciously the decision was then made to compete in Class 11. Not just compete in Class 11, but the decision was officially made to race in the SCORE series and go for a championship. In 2021, we have tackled the 3 Score International races to date. The San Felipe 250, Baja 500, and Baja 400, with wins at the Baja 500 and Baja 400. During these 3 races the team has become great friends with Obed, Evelyn, and all of their children. They come to the races to enjoy the days of preparation before the race and to cheer us on and pray for us. The team is a tight knit group that always puts in the time before and at the race to do whatever we can to ensure success.
Racing Class 11 in Baja is a challenge, sometimes referred to as the “warriors of Baja” regardless, we as a team acknowledge that Obed and Evelyn are the true warriors. They are fearless, they tackle the unknown and they are wonderful, caring people. Monica from GHA Racing has always had a heart to give which was instilled at a young age by her mother. She then shared these ways with Clyde. A few years ago through someone in their church they went to Tijuana and met Obed, Evelyn, and their children. Monica and Clyde fell in love with this family and children and have been doing whatever they can in the past few years to help them. Monica has singlehandedly accomplished a ton of work to help Obed and Evelyn but recently the situation has become overwhelming.
Once the need for Obed and Evelyn to move arose, everyone jumped in to action to help. But again, it is simply too much for one small team to handle. Our team is making the first commitment to the fundraiser by donating $1.00 per mile. Alex, Mario, German, Monica, Clyde, Tim, Pete, Nelson, Byron, Rudy, Adrian, Armando, Edgar and Gabriel. We operate as a team, always putting forth a team effort. This is your open invitation to be a part of our GHA Racing Team and join us at the 2021 Baja 1000 in our fundraising effort.
If you are blessed, please bless.
Thank you and see you in La Paz!
